Periscope, Meerkat, and YouNow are live streaming apps (they broadcast live video on the go) that enable the user to gain followers and chat live. While technology is moving forward and making our world a little bit smaller, it is also having serious consequences for children. If you and your child decide to enable a live streaming app, there are a few things you should consider first:
Be sure to set strict rules and adhere to those rules.
Agree on consequences for poor behavior and be open to communication.
Enable safety settings and disable locations services on all forms of social media.
Open a live streaming account yourself in order to keep an eye on your child.
When broadcasting, make sure to leave out any landmarks or identifiable locations.
Modern technology gives us the ability to connect with others around the globe and feel part of a community. Using simple steps to play it safe will make our experience and our kids’ experience even better.
